Our Food & Drink

At the Kirkstyle we are blessed with an abundance of wild game and pasture-bred sheep and cattle from our neighbouring farms. Our goal is to showcase all the culinary delights Northumberland has to offer. Head Chef, Connor Wilson uses classic cooking techniques with minimal intervention to maximise the flavour of each dish on his menu.

Our strong pro-environmental compass ensures that the season determines our menu and sustainability governs what we serve. We specialise in wild meat and the pasture-bred meat raised here on the moorlands. We serve beautifully cooked fish from the Northumberland coast and offer a vegetarian option.

“We work closely with our local farmers many of whom have farmed the moorlands for generations. Their knowledge of the environment, animal welfare and careful husbandry is second to none. We follow their advice on the ever changing seasons and buy whole animals whenever we can. My commitment is to use as much of that animal as I can to create delicious dishes. I use preservative methods such as pickling and fermentation to manage food waste. This allows us to create a larder of ingredients and avoids us having to look further afield during scarcer times and so reducing our carbon footprint” Head Chef, Connor Wilson.

We had travelled from Spain to spend a week with friends and looked for places that would be memorable. The Kirkstyle Inn did not disappoint. The premises are warm and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding!!! If it wasn’t for the distance, we would be back often. We will visit again when we are next here as we loved it and would recommend anyone to visit who enjoys high quality food which is locally sourced and evidently made with love and care.

The people that work at the Kirkstyle are exemplary in term of service, help, assistance and recommendations. Food is probably one of the best menus we have tried; won’t be long before a Michelin star comes their way. The rooms are well furbished and the building is finished to a very high standard of quality. If you don’t go and visit you’re missing out.

The fish cookery masterclass and follow-up meal were very good and definitely good value for the money paid. Thank you for such an enjoyable few hours. The Kirkstyle Inn is fast becoming a firm favourite. Worth the trip from Alnwick, although next time we might treat ourselves to another dinner, bed and breakfast stay in such a beautiful location.
