The Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest lies in Northumberland’s stunning AONB on the borders of Cumbria in the quaint village of Slaggyford.  It is believed that it was originally the rectory, and first listed as a public house in the mid 1800’s.  Today it is a four bedroomed Gastropub of distinct character and outstanding design.

The menu is game led with seasonality and sustainability at the core. We benefit from an abundance of wonderful local produce from the estate and neighbouring hill farmers.

At the Kirkstyle we have a strong pro-environmental compass.  We work closely with our local hill farmers many of whom have farmed the moorlands for generations. Their knowledge of the environment, animal welfare and careful husbandry is second to none.  We follow their advice on the ever changing seasons and buy whole animals whenever we can.  Chef Connor is committed to using as much of the animal as possible to create delicious dishes.  He uses preservative methods such as pickling and fermentation to manage food waste.  This allows us to create a larder of ingredients and avoids us having to look further afield for products during scarcer times and so reducing our carbon footprint.

Our fish is primarily from the Northumberland coast and The Tyne. All of our dishes are made onsite, including our freshly made sourdough bread.

Like all great pubs we serve a seriously good pint with an array of beverages showcasing the talents of the surrounding area.

Our wine list boasts over 350 bins designed to suit most palates and purses.
